Strauss An Alpine Symphony: Rehearsal Course
The Rehearsal Orchestra offers a two-day, intensive workshop on Richard Strauss’ tone poem An Alpine Symphony (Eine Alpensinfonie). Premiered in 1915, the work describes the exhilarating expedition of a trek through the Alpine mountains, featuring waterfalls, glaciers and an ear-splitting storm. Scored for a large orchestra, with additional woodwind and brass, including a heckelphone, Wagner tubas and off-stage brass, the orchestration includes parts for wind and thunder machines, and cowbells. Working under Artistic Director Levon Parikian, with the benefit of a team of experienced professional strings principals. Schedule: Saturday 14 March 2026 14.30-17.30 Sunday 15 March 2026 10.30-13.30 14.30-17.15 Open Rehearsal 17.45-18.45 Applications are invited from advanced players over the age of 18. The Rovere d'Oro is a prestigious international music competition renowned for its ability to highlight artistic excellence. Since 1986, it has provided a unique opportunity for musicians to showcase their talent on an exceptional stage. The Young Talents section is dedicated to emerging musicians, fostering their professional and artistic development. The Competition includes solo instruments (piano, harp, wind inst., guitar, brass instr.…) and chamber music, ensuring a high-level competitive experience. New for 2026: The winner of the Rovere d’Oro will be invited to perform one or more concerts in Mexico, in collaboration with the Conservatorio Nacional de Las Rosas (Morelia). All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the Competition.
